Clifton College WebsiteAdmissionsIf you think you might want to come to school here, you can come and visit us and see if you like it.
No formal assessment takes place for pupils joining the first four years of Butcombe, Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. A ‘first come, first served’ policy operates at this level. Pupils wishing to join Butcombe at the age of 7 (Year 3) will be assessed in English and Mathematics in the term proceeding entry. The minimum standard required is the expected national Standard Attainment Test (SAT) level for the age group. The criteria we use in assessing candidates for entry throughout the College is explained in the College Admissions Policy. Many people’s first visit to Butcombe is at one of our Open Days. Alternatively many parents request a prospectus and make an appointment to view the school. The school secretary, Mrs Annabel Purnell, will be happy to arrange this for you and you will meet the Headmistress, Dr Wendy Bowring, see the school, meet the children and be able to ask any questions you may have. The next stage is to register your child. This involves completing a Registration Form and paying the registration fee of £125.00. We will then invite your child in to spend a morning with us (not Nursery children) for an informal assessment, meet the staff and children and make new friends! Following a successful visit, we will then write to you formally offering them a place. If you choose to accept this offer, you will need to complete an Acceptance Form, a Medical Form and a Personal Details Form and we would require a deposit of £300.00. Once you have completed the Acceptance Form, your child is on our list to join Butcombe and have a long and happy life at Clifton College! Butcombe has an Open Morning and an Open Afternoon every term where prospective parents may visit the school. Please also ask for details of our Open Days. Year Groups
