Life at Butcombe

School starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3.30pm, but you can stay later if you want to join a club. There is a yummy lunch in the middle of the day and sometimes we do something really fun like the Bookfair or a concert.

The working day begins at 8.45am, although children may be brought from 8.00am onwards. School finishes at 3.45pm, but After School Care is available until 6.00pm, with tea provided. Children have a varied and well-balanced choice of meals at lunchtime, and provision is made for vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements.

Special events are arranged on a regular basis, and the children take part in many educational trips including a youth hostelling weekend for the older children, visiting theatre groups, dance workshops and speakers, annual Bookfair, concerts and shows, fundraising events for charity, Chapel services and sporting events.

School Structure

Butcombe is one of three schools that form Clifton College, with around 240 children in the five year groups:

Nursery 3 – 4 year-olds
Reception 4 – 5 year-olds
Year 1 5 – 6 year-olds
Year 2 6 – 7 year-olds
Year 3 7 – 8 year-olds

Facilities

The school consists of two buildings known as Butcombe House and Sharp’s House. Butcombe House accommodates eight classrooms on four floors, with a large hall, music area and cookery room. The school provides a stimulating learning environment, with classrooms bright and cheerful, fully resourced with up-to-date technology and equipment.

The Nursery, Reception and some Year 1 classes are to be found in Sharp's House, found on the far side of the playground. The lower ground floor consists of two large classrooms with a shared art and technology area for Reception children. The upper ground floor houses the Nursery suite consisting of three rooms, a Role Play Room, Activity Room and Quiet Room. Two further classrooms and a SEN room are on the first floor, with a second cookery room, French room and library to be found on the top floor.
