We provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment for the all-important years of pre-school education.

Children join the Nursery when they reach the age of three, and may initially attend for either three days, five mornings, five afternoons or full-time. Most children build up to full-time in the term before they move in to Reception.

Although run as an independent unit within the Pre-prep, the Nursery is an integral part of the school, and Nursery children take part in school activities wherever possible.

The Head of Nursery leads the team of teaching staff, NNEB-qualified nursery nurses and general assistants, with a pupil:adult ratio of one to six as a maximum.

Children learn through play in a relaxed and creative environment, and the foundations of independence and academic learning are laid.

The Nursery programme provides a balanced range of activities designed to aid the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of the children. Pre-reading, writing and number work is balanced with art, music, dance and drama through a variety of teaching strategies - small group work, individual or class work. Science, technology and humanities are introduced through a topic-based approach.

The Nursery gives children an excellent start to life at Clifton College, and prepares the way for a smooth and happy transfer to the main school.
