Play Learning

2011

Jamie’s dad, Dr. Simon came to Nursery with paramedic Mike in their rapid response team car. They talked to us about their work, their vehicle and all the equipment they carry to help people. Sometimes they travel by helicopter.

Dr. Simon demonstrated how they help people with broken arms or legs. They wrap the soft yellow ‘blanket’ around the hurt arm and then take out all the air using a pump. The yellow ‘blanket’ goes hard.

Paramedic Mike told us about the inside of the vehicle.

We monitored our heart rate. The girls have a higher heart rate than the boys. Everyone has a faster heart rate after running.

The back pack is very heavy. It contains an expensive but helpful machine to monitor your heart. Dr. Simon and paramedic Mike wear a hard helmet with a torch so they can work in the dark. The car can go very fast.

We are....learning about airplanes and flying

We have been talking about how we move. A pilot and stewardess visited nursery to help us understand all about flying. We learned lots.

We are....eating healthily and exercising

We celebrated Fruity Friday by wearing 'fruity' colours. We tasted lots of fruits from around the world. We need to eat fruit and vegetables to keep healthy. We also need to exercise to keep us fit. Here we are balancing.

We are....artists

We looked at two paintings by Paul Klee. They were called Figure In the Garden and A Child's Game. We created our own paintings by making lines and using different shapes.

We are....gardeners

Outside we have been growing plants. We grew peas and sunflowers from seed. Here we are watering our tomato plants. We are also growing potatoes and peppers. All good things to eat.

We are....mechanics

We have been exploring and finding out how things move. In our outside role-play we created our own garage to check the cars and trucks were working well. The reception area was kept busy ordering parts and helping customers.
