Clifton College WebsiteYear 3When you are in Year 3, you can do a big show in the theatre. You can also go on trips to Wookey Hole Caves and Wales!
Break a leg!In the Lent term the highlight for Year 3 was the show Jack and the Giant. All Year 3 took part - acting, singing and dancing. Year 2 also provided extra dancers. All the children worked hard in preparation for performances in the Redgrave Theatre. This professional theatre allows the children to act on stage with lights, microphones and live music. It is always amazing to see the children develop and they get so much out of the experience - including memories for life. The Witch of Wookey! In the Autumn term Year 3’s science topic revolves around Rocks and Minerals which involves a trip to Wookey Hole Caves. This is an educational and enjoyable day. The children learn about the cave structure and formation with stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes. They also hear the tale of the Witch of Wookey! This provides plenty of discussion and links with literacy. Celebration DayMay 1st was Butcombe’s Celebration Day. Parents were invited for the morning to listen to speeches and visit the classrooms to see all the good work that had been going on. In the Hall there was an art exhibition with each Year group from Nursery to Year 3 displaying their work. Each Year group had investigated an artist and produced work in a similar style. It all looked fantastic! Trip to Welsh BicknorMay 11 and May 12 means Welsh Bicknor! Year 3 and a team of teachers head off for an overnight trip. Clearwell Caves, Goodrich Castle, the Amazing Hedge Puzzle, The National Birds of Prey Centre and The Sculpture Trail are all on the agenda. Home for the evening is a youth hostel in the Wye Valley with space for outdoor games and dormitories to share with friends! It is a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their friendships and independence away from home and an evening off for the parents! NativityChristmas came early for Year 3 on Friday 16th November when they were invited to join Year 4 in the Pre Hall for a splendid version of the Nativity by the Old Vic. It was witty, full of fun and singing by a talented group of actors and musicians. As well as singing the cast played various recorders which enchanted the children with their melodies. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can’t wait for the festivities to begin. © 2006-8 Clifton College |
