Shoeboxes of joy

Shoeboxes of joy
the shoeboxes decorated and piled high in the hall

Last week Butcombe Hall was overrun with a mountain of brightly wrapped and ribboned...shoeboxes. Yes, shoeboxes. Operation Christmas Child, it seems, has returned.

Operation Christmas Child is currently the UK's largest children's Christmas appeal. It has run for nearly 20 years now, delivering shoebox parcels to children in need. Last year, through Operation Christmas Child, over one million shoeboxes packed with sweets and toys as well as more practical gifts like toothbrushes, crayons, notepads and soap were sent to children in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

At Butcombe Operation Christmas Child has become, like the Christmas tree in the Hall window, a regular holiday feature. This year was no different. When the collection truck arrived children from Y2 and Y3 assembled to help load the shoeboxes onto the truck and send the parcels on their long journeys overseas.

Butcombe would once again like to thank all the parents and children for their time, support and generosity. Merry Christmas!
