Clifton College WebsiteButcombe goes Victorian!![]() This week the Year 3 children held their annual Victorian Day, coming to school in clothes that would have been worn by children of that time. Thanks to some very skilled work from the parents the children all looked very authentic in their costumes. Each child brought in a potato for their lessons and lunch! The teachers were also dressed up and were addressed as ma’am by the children. ![]() The normal school routine was transformed and the whole day was run entirely as it would have been for school children in the Victorian times. On arrival (and during a break from the rain!) all the children lined up into two separate lines in the play ground one for boys and one for girls, before making their way into their classroom via separate entrances. ![]() Throughout the day the children worked in silence and were taught lessons from the Victorian era, using chalk and slates. Activities commenced with handwriting, drill, drawing and studying their potatoes as well as rote learning. The dunce’s cap was the order of the day with all the children experiencing wearing it! ![]() Lunch time started and ended with the saying of grace and the children ate in silence. The afternoon activities commenced with children being checked for nits, scabies and scurvy by Mrs Chapman (the School nurse)! A day to remember for all. 1 December 2009 © 2006-9 Clifton College | Butcombe NewsRaising the bar U8 Tag Rugby Festival Butcombe Book Fair Latest Videos | ||||||
