Butcombe Newsletter Issue 17

Dear Parents,

It was a pleasure to see so many of you at our Celebration day last week, and thank you for the positive feedback the teachers and I have received. It is good to know that the event is appreciated, especially by working parents who have fewer opportunities to see what goes on at school.

This week is Concert week, and there are a few reminders about other things...

Concert

A reminder that we are holding our annual Informal Concert on Friday, 16 May, at 2.00 p.m. in Chapel. All welcome. The children will be singing and playing instruments, giving you an insight into the kind of activities they do in their music lessons, and there will be a sprinkling of Year 3 soloists too. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sunny Weather

Whenever I make mention of the glorious sunny weather, it's normally the trigger for the clouds and rain to return! Hopefully not this time! Please would you send in your child with a sun hat, preferably a school sun hat available from the school shop, or another blue or white hat - but, please, no other colours. Please would you also give your child a good coating of sun cream if the weather forecast says it is going to remain sunny. We are buying even more shades for the playground, but inevitably many of the children prefer to play in the sun shine, and we want to be sure they are protected.

Photographs

The lovely photographs of your children will be coming home very shortly and if you would like to order some you can do so handing in the order form and a cheque made payable to BROMHEAD PHOTOGRAPHY to the office, please no cash. Alternatively you can order on line at www.bromheadphotography.co.uk. The event name is Butcombe Class **/* and the password is *****. They need all the orders in by half term so you receive them before we break up for summer.

Playground after school

Please may I crave your help over the children's behaviour in the playground after school? The staff and I are increasingly concerned to see some of the behaviour: although they know that there should be no play-fighting and that everyone has a 'space bubble' around them that no-one can invade, these rules seem to be forgotten at the end of the day, as if there is one code of behaviour during the day and another afterwards. With the arrival of the good weather, the children are playing after school all the more, which we are very happy about. However, there are more 'tussles' between children that we are hearing of, simply because they have switched out of 'school mode' and forgotten the rules. These issues are then reported for us to follow up in school, which we are very happy to do as it all forms part of their personal development, although it is the source of some frustration as it is invariably about behaviour that is unacceptable and does not feature during the day. Often these issues need not have arisen if the children were closely supervised. It is important that the same code of conduct is enforced so that everyone can play safely and happily. Many thanks for your help over this.

With best wishes,
