Clifton College WebsiteButcombe Newsletter Issue 182 June 2008 Dear Parents, Here we are in the final leg - less than five weeks and the summer holidays will be with us! There is a great deal to pack into a short space of time, starting already this week with Sports Day, details of which are below. Classes for 2008–2009Our attention now turns to arrangements for the next academic year I know you are all keen to know which classes your children will be in next year. This is always an unsettling time for some parents, but we once again expect to be able to tell you which class your child will be going into prior to the information evenings that run over the next four weeks. Sports DayJust a reminder that all parents, grandparents, toddlers and friends are welcome to join us for our Sports Day on Friday of this week, 6th June. As in previous years, all the children will be split into teams and will take part in a number of activities, for which they will score points for their team. There will also be running races after the team events have taken place. No sports day would be complete without the Mums and Dads races, so please come ready for action! If the weather is sunny (fingers crossed), please make sure that your child comes to school with a generous layer of sun cream on, and with a bottle of sun cream so that they can put some more on before going to the sports field. They will also need a sun hat. For the duration of the event, the children will remain in teams with a teacher, and we respectfully request that you do not come over to your child, to top-up the sun cream or to give them drinks etc. It is necessary that all the children remain under the supervision of the teacher for the duration of the event. By all means, though, cheer and support the children in their efforts. After the presentations, the children are asked to wait with their class teacher who will give them an ice-lolly. At that point, after shaking hands with their teacher, they will be dismissed into your care. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available in the Crypt. The children will go home in their sports kit, with their uniform in one of the kit bags which they will need to collect from school. After school care will continue as normal, and the children using this facility will be taken back to school by a teacher. In the event of severe wet weather, a decision to cancel will be made before school and notices to this effect will be placed on the outdoor notice-boards. In the event of showery weather, a decision to cancel will be made by the P.E. staff and groundsman at 12 noon. You are welcome to telephone after this time to find out the decision, but please do not telephone before as the decision will not have been made. Hopefully, we will have a lovely sunny afternoon - the forecast is very good - and I look forward to seeing you and your families at the end of the week. That is all for now. Fingers crossed that the good weather stays and that our programme of activities for the rest of the term goes ahead as planned. We look forward to seeing you on Friday if not before.
