Clifton College WebsiteStrictly Scrum Dancing![]() On the final day of Lent Term eleven brave couples drawn from the teaching staff of all three Schools, competed in a Strictly Come Dancing style evening in the Redgrave Theatre. The evening was the ‘brain child ‘of Judith Hood (parent and chair of Friends of Clifton) and was arranged to raise money for the Life for a Cure Charity and the two overseas sports tours that leave in the summer holidays. There were two shows which were complete sell-outs and the atmosphere was electric as the couples were introduced to the audience. The Judges were Joanna Moore, Jonathan Thompson Glover and William Hanson; and the Hosts were John Bobby and Louise Catchpole. Each couple had received dancing lessons from professional dance instructors Michele Webber (Dance Factory Bristol) and Jody Lewarne (Clifton College) but as completely beginners there was much to learn over the ten weeks of lessons. The dances ranged from traditional Strictly ballroom numbers such the tango, jive and pasa doble to a ‘dirty dance’ and a seventies disco number. ![]() In fact the event was such a huge success and all the dancers had obviously put in a tremendous amount of hard work, so they were all winners – but the results were as follows: Nick Smith and Laura-Jane Loynton (Jive) were winners of the matinée; with Phil and Fiona Hallworth (Dirty Dance) winners of the evening competition. The evening ticket price included wine and tapas which added to the fun and so apart from the success as a fundraising event, for sheer entertainment it was possibly one of Clifton’s best moments. Well done to Amelia Allen, Y11, for her creative flair and professionalism in taking such wonderful photographs of the dancers and of the event.
