Blake Shield Presentation and Awards Day

Blake Shield Presentation and Awards Day

On Saturday 26th November, Clifton College hosted the Blake Shield BNA Trust Nature Day and Presentation of Awards. We were delighted to welcome the charity’s patron, Professor David Bellamy to lunch in Big School, along with the trustees, children, parents and teachers.

This small charity holds an annual competition in which groups of young people from schools or youth groups all over the country submit natural history projects conducted in their local area. These are then judged and prizes are awarded to winners in three age groups. The awards ceremony takes place in November each year and includes two natural history-based workshops and the presentation of awards is conducted by Patron, David Bellamy. Upper School biology teacher, Dr Remy Poland, is a trustee of the charity and gives one of the workshops, and the other varies from year to year.

This year is the charity’s 25th anniversary. In recent years, the event has been held at the University of Northampton, with around 200 people attending. Our thanks go to next-door neighbour Bristol Zoo, who we share a close relationship with, for providing reduced entry rates and giving our visitors the added bonus of a very enjoyable hour there too. A gallery of photographs shows what fun was had on the day.
