Dear Parents,

Four weeks in and the term is already hurtling by at an alarming pace; what a busy place the Pre continues to be!

It was a pleasure to see you at the recent Chapel service where the collection for the Sesenyi Primary School (Joyce) raised £890; thank you for your generous support.

Scholarships

It has been a very successful week in academic terms for the Pre. With the announcement of the 13+ Academic Scholarships to the Upper School, I am delighted to announce that Pre pupils were very successful with a total of seven awards being won, including the prestigious Martin Hardcastle award. In addition, four Pre pupils gained Art Scholarships, including the prestigious Roger Fry award:

Facebook

I thought I would let you know that there has recently been a number of unsavoury incidents involving Facebook that highlight the instant – and cruel – way in which technology can be used to devastating effects. You can be assured that the school has dealt with these incidents, with the appropriate sanctions being issued, but it raises several issues.

Please can you remind the children that they are not allowed electronic gadgets, phones, etc, in school without the explicit permission of their HoM or the Headmaster? Please can I ask for your continued support in sending out these messages at home: firstly, accessing social networking sites – or similar – at school is not allowed and, secondly, many of these sites (particularly Facebook) have a minimum age limit of 13 as a legal requirement?

In previous Internet Safety events we have encouraged parents to ask to see whatever sites pupils are viewing as a way of ensuring that our children are only posting what they would be happy for another adult to see; this is the litmus test! Please forgive me for my paternalistic approach on this topic but I feel very passionate about this and believe that we must educate our children on how to best use these new technologies.

Summer Uniform

Dare we?? I propose that we introduce Summer uniform from tomorrow. For those new to the school, or for those unsure if memory serves them correctly, Summer uniform consists of:

  • Blazer;
  • short blue socks for the girls;
  • the option of short-sleeved blue shirts for both sexes.

If wearing a long-sleeved shirt without a tie, the sleeves must be turned back two or three times and, if needed, a tank top added – not the long-sleeved jumper. If long-sleeved jumpers are worn, then they must be worn with a tie.

With kind regards,
