Clifton College WebsiteIAPS South West AthleticsOn Friday 15th June, 28 athletes travelled to Millfield to compete in the IAPS South West Athletics Championships to try and gain selection for the National Finals in Birmingham. ![]() Although the rain held off pretty well, the wind made conditions really difficult for everyone. Despite all this, we managed to get four 1st places, four 2nd places, five 3rds and numerous near misses in 4th! Highlights of the day included Harry Leeming in the U14 boys 1500m. He ran a superb race in a fantastic time of 4 minutes 43.4 seconds. This time also managed to break the meet record which has stood since 1995! Tom Millett won both the U13 boys 70m hurdles (12.3 seconds) AND the U13 boys 200m (27.8 seconds), both with real ease, and real class. Bradley Fletcher took 1st place in the discus with a throw just shy of 19m. Other great results included Jamie Murray who came second in the 100m in a time of 14.0 seconds. Samantha Welsh, who almost 2 years younger than most of the girls she was competing against, came 2nd in the U12 girls High Jump and 3rd in the 100m. Also in second place was Henry Adams in the 1500m and Luke Webster-Khan in the 75m hurdles. It was a great day where everyone gave their all. Even if medals weren't won by everyone, personal bests were smashed all over the place!!! Very well done! Next stop, the Nationals in Birmingham on Monday 2nd July - game on! ![]() 21 June 2012 © 2006-12 Clifton College | Clifton College NewsPres Athletics Success Newsletter Family fun at the UK's largest free nature festival | ||||||
