Clifton College WebsiteButcombe's Football FunButcombe’s Year 3 football team gathered together one last time on the 28th of June to compete in a Year 3/Year4 tournament held at Beggar’s Bush. Organised by the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) and sponsored by Tesco, this Euro 2012 inspired tournament brought together 16 schools from Bristol and Gloucester. ![]() It was a busy day of football. Mixing seven-a-side matches with training sessions run by English FA coaches, Butcombe were unbeaten in the morning. James Scott, Harrison Tate and Joss Plummeridge found the scoring sheet early on whilst Cameron Longman and Ollie Simcox proved sure-footed in defence. The team also looked sharp passing the ball in each of the matches as well as the training session. The afternoon, however, was more of a struggle as the Butcombe 10 ran into some older, stronger sides. Oliver Hills was the standout player then, a stalwart in midfield and defence. Special mention must also go to Benedict Bird who helped spare Butcombe’s blushes in the day’s last match with his goal-keeping acrobatics. See a gallery of the day. All in all, it was a great day out for the children and their supporters. Though results did not go their way in the afternoon, Butcombe left BB’s 3G pitch with their heads high and resolved to return ready and able in September wearing the blue-and-white colours of the Pre. ![]() 12 July 2012 © 2006-12 Clifton College | Clifton College NewsNewsletter The Paris Wife, By Paula McLain Clifton College Equestrian Team | ||||||
