We are the Champions!

The 1st XI was triumphant at the end of a busy Lent Term of soccer by winning the Mercian League final against RGS Worcester.

Having won the Southern Mercian League, which included teams from QEH, Bristol Grammar School, Marlborough, Malvern, Brecon, Wycliffe and Monmouth, the 1st XI were invited to play the winners of the Northern Mercian league which included teams from Uppingham, Bromsgrove, Wellingborough, Kings Worcester and Loughborough. The match was played at Ludlow Town FC, under floodlights and attracted a large crowd of fanatical support.

One nil down at half time, the College team, captained by Haydon Lyons (WiH), rallied to win the game by 3 goals to 1. A well taken penalty by Fielder (MH) levelled the score before Fielder scored again with a superb right-footed strike from the edge of the box which screamed into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Fowler (MH) then scored in the dying minutes after a determined run into the box to clinch the game.

After the celebrations last year to mark 50 years of soccer at Clifton, success in this Final indicates how far soccer at Clifton has progressed.
