Elliott Randall with Pro Band

Elliott Randall with Pro Band

On Friday 26 February Clifton College hosted a fabulous concert by the celebrated session guitarist, Elliott Randall. A native New Yorker and now resident in London, Elliott is a veteran of the music scene having played on legendary recordings by Steely Dan, The Blues Brothers and countless others.

He brought a wealth of experience and musical finesse to Clifton, firstly in a guitar clinic in the new Music School at 2pm and then at an evening Concert at 7.30pm in The Pre Hall.

At both events Elliott was backed by a top band comprised of the best local players:

Clive Deamer: drums (Portishead/Robert Plant/Jeff Beck)
Jerry Crozier-Cole: guitar (Pee Wee Ellis/Ronan Keating/Ruby Turner)
Jeff Spencer: bass and vocals (Geoffrey Oryema/John Etheridge/Pee Wee Ellis)
Ruth Hammond: keyboards, sax and vocals (Morcheeba)
Charlotte Ridley: vocals (Empire of Lights)

Elliott’s live show revisited many of the most famous songs of Steely Dan, as well as some fine originals and well loved blues/rock classics. His magnetic stage presence and natural exuberance guaranteed to entertain – and the show was a memorable College evening.

One of the few guitarists to have sustained a busy session career with formidable touring credits, as well as film soundtrack work, this event provided an opportunity to see a world-class player doing what he does best.

The excellent Clifton College Soul Band playing Motown classics joined in the fun too, and the lucky audience couldn’t resist dancing and singing along to an electrifying performance. This really was an evening to remember.
