Under 11s win the English Schools South West Finals!

Congratulations to the Preparatory School boys Under 11 football team who won the English Schools’ F.A. South West Finals on Saturday March 6th. Representing Gloucestershire Schools, having previously won the Bristol and County stages, the boys played against teams from the Channel Islands, Hampshire, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire.

The winning U11 team

Having won the South West finals the boys now move on to the Nationals Finals of the competition which are being held at Watford FC training ground on the 1st May. Here the Clifton College boys will take on the other regional champions; the South-East, Midlands and the North with the winners being crowned National Champions.

Head of football at the Pre and the Under 11s coach, Mr Julian Edgell said ‘I am very proud of the boys; winning the South West finals was about a marvellous team effort in which everyone contributed a great deal of skill and determination. We’re all looking forward to our first appearance at the National Finals’.

After a tentative start in the first game against Cornwall which ended in a 0-0 draw, the boys were much stronger to beat Wiltshire 3-0 and Oxfordshire 1-0. Needing to just avoid a heavy defeat in their last group game they drew with Dorset 2-2. Clifton had the best of the final against Berkshire and spurned some good chances before finally producing a marvellous one touch passing move winning 1-0.
