Clifton College WebsiteButcombe NewsletterDr Wendy Bowring, the Headmistress of Clifton College's Butcombe Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School, writes a regular newsletter for parents and friends of the school. Newsletter 16Dear Parents, Parents EveningsI am sending this newsletter out a day early because I need to inform you about signing up for Parents Evenings next week. You are invited to make an appointment to meet with your child’s class teacher between 4.00 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on either Tuesday, 23rd March or Wednesday 24th March. You will have the opportunity to look at your child’s work, and discuss the school report which will be sent home on Monday. The lists for you to select and sign up for a convenient appointment time will be placed on the back door of Butcombe tomorrow morning. Nursery lists will be placed on the inside doors of the Nursery. Miss Wright is on an extended course next week, but she will be present for both parents’ evenings. RW will be taken by Miss Standen and Mrs James for the week; both are teachers with whom the class work on a regular basis. Voluntary one-way systemI have been asked to remind all parents that the school encourages a voluntary one-way system of traffic travelling down The Avenue and up Northcote Road at drop-off and collection times each day. By so doing it greatly relieves traffic congestion along these roads, and is much safer for parents and children. I realise that the traffic calming measures along College Road and the closure of Bridge Valley Road have made the journey to school even more frustrating for many people, but adhering to this simple strategy will ease the situation for all, and make the environs of the school safer all round. Many thanks for your help with this. EventsAs ever, life at Butcombe is busy and varied. Year 2 visited Chepstow Castle yesterday, to support their topic which has inspired them enormously. Today we have had a ‘Drum Crazy’ workshop in school to work with the other year groups (Annabel and I have had the pleasure of dozens of drums banging away in the hall all day, so we might look completely frazzled and somewhat deaf by home time!). Tomorrow we are running our Sport Relief Mile, the details of which are in last week’s letter, and Year 3 take part in the Inter-School Mini-Triathlon. Good luck to everyone, and I look forward to seeing as many Year 3 parents as possible in the sports centre. Our Spring Service takes place in chapel on Tuesday 23rd March at 11.15 a.m.. The service will be led by the chaplain, Revd Taplin, with the children joining in the hymns and in other ways. Family and friends are very welcome to join us for this. On Thursday we have our Easter Hat Parade, again details are included in last week’s newsletter. Some children have told their parents that they have made hats at school, but these are simply for Tuesday’s service – they are not appropriate for the Easter Hat Parade. A reminder that you are all welcome for refreshments in the Butcombe Hall between 8.30 and 9.00 prior to the parade. I cannot finish this letter without a reminder about the School Discos next week (again, details in the last letter). Some of the children are practicing their dance moves in the playground – it is serious stuff! They should have a great deal of fun! That is it for now, and I look forward to seeing as many of you at the various events before the end of term.
