Clifton College WebsiteThe Summer Serenade 2010The Summer Serenade has become a highlight of the musical life of Clifton, to help raise much-needed funds for The Guild of Friends of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. On Sunday 9 May, 2010 our finest young soloists delighted a crowded audience with their skill and diversity, performing alongside members of the professional orchestra Bristol Ensemble, in a rich and varied programme. The soloists this year, drawn from the Pre and Upper School, included Julia Hwang, Lana Trimmer, William Morrison and James Fraser, Oliver Gittings playing Summer from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; Alonso Juarez Burgos in Shostakovitch’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Elleri Hughes singing Summertime from Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess and the beautiful Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man from Jerome Kern’s groundbreaking Showboat. The concert also included the first performance of a fabulous new work for strings and harp by pupil Catrin Cox. Summer Serenade showcases the amazing musical talent at Clifton, set in the stunning College Chapel and the increasing popularity all contribute to the sheer pleasure of this community event. 17 May 2010 © 2006-12 Clifton College | Clifton College NewsClifton trumps the weather!
