Clifton College Website

Welcome to the Old Cliftonian Society

We have launched our new website. The new website provides OCs with the opportunity to publish news, for branch secretaries and sports clubs to organise events, for OCs to email each other directly and for OCs to update their personal information with full security and data protection.

Please take a moment to visit the new website : www.oc-online.co.uk.

If you do not think we have your email address please let us know at ocs@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk.

Old Boys and Girls of Clifton College

The Old Cliftonian Society is a very active one, with a small secretariat at the College, 19 branches in the UK and 33 overseas, including Canada, The United States, Australia, Africa and the Far East.

Its aims are threefold: to help members keep in touch with one another; to assist the School; and, in cases of need, to give unobtrusive help to members who experience difficulty in meeting Clifton school fees. All members are invited to regular reunions at the School by age group, and receive a copy of the Society's Annual Report which gives details of the School's activities and news of former pupils.

Clifton College: Foundation to Evacuation

To mark the 150th anniversary of the opening of the School, the Bristol Record Society and the College are publishing a volume of documents which illustrate Clifton’s history from the foundation to the start of the Second World War. Most of the material comes from the College’s Archives, and almost all of it is printed for the first time. Official papers and extracts from House books are included alongside private letters; the book is arranged under various themes – including science, music, debates and sport – following Clifton’s life in its formative years.

OCs will be able to buy copies for £10, equivalent to the Record Society members’ annual subscription. Advance orders are not required, but it would help us to estimate the number to be printed if interest could be registered by emailing us at ocs@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk.

Lost OCs

Attached is a list of Old Cliftonians we have lost contact with. If you are on the list, or know anyone on the list, please email ocs@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk with your updated details including email and phone contact.

Moved?

Inevitably we lose many Old Cliftonians addresses since they forget to inform the OC Society of their move. If you meet any of your friends whose address does not appear in the current register, please encourage them to inform the OC Society. Please contact either Simon Reece on sreece@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk or Lucy Nash on lnash@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk for all information.

Schools Competition Act Settlement Trust

During 2005, fifty schools in the independent sector were the subject of an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) into the sharing of fee information. The OFT found that any sharing of information that might have taken place did not have any effect on the level of fees charged but, as part of the agreed resolution of the investigation, the schools involved agreed to make ex gratia payments into a charitable trust designed to benefit pupils who attended the schools during the period in respect of which the fee information was shared. Further details of the Trust and how to apply for grants may be found at the SCAST website.
