Clifton College remembers
Clifton College was delighted to welcome Dr Lionel Kopelowitz as the guest preacher at its Service of Remembrance in the College Chapel on Sunday 12th November.
The service was attended by over 1,100 students, parents, staff, governors and visitors. Red poppies were much in evidence as a trumpeter played 'The Last Post' before the traditional two minutes silence was observed.
Dr Kopelowitz, who is a former pupil of the School and past President of the Old Cliftonian Society, spoke movingly and powerfully from the book of Genesis about the God who remembered Noah, Abraham and Rachel, and how this remembrance also pointed to future hope and blessing. Thus the remembrance of those who gave their lives in the wars of the past, should lead to a resolve and commitment to future peace.
After the service wreaths were laid at the College's Memorial Arch upon which are inscribed the names of the College's war dead.
