Clifton College WebsiteSpanish Trips2009This year’s Spanish trip proved to be an enjoyable and very successful one. As in recent years we went to Catalonia and stayed in a very luxurious 3 star hotel in the beautiful little seaside town of Rosas. Rosas is about 2 hours north east of Barcelona. A total of 19 children went on the trip (10 boys and 9 girls) accompanied by 3 members of staff (Mr Royston, Mr Miles and Miss Subrati). The weather was perfect for the most part - warm and sunny with temperatures in the mid to late 20’s centigrade. During our 4 day stay we packed in a great deal. Local trips to the Dalí museum in Figueres (home town of arguably the most famous Spanish surrealist artist of the 20th century, Salvador Dalí) and the picturesque fishing village of Cadaqués were sandwiched between a whole day excursion to the capital city of Catalonia, Barcelona, where we experienced the delights of “Las Ramblas” , Gaudí’s extraordinary, quite unique and as yet uncompleted church known as “La sagrada familia” and the Nou Camp stadium, home of FC Barcelona. In addition the children attended 6 hours of Spanish lessons with native Spanish speaking teachers at “Prestige Idiomas” a small yet reputable language school in the centre of Rosas. The lessons were designed to provide an opportunity to consolidate language topics already covered in Year 7 and to get out of the classroom and do some practical tasks including interviewing locals and finding out the names and prices of items in Spanish shops and the local markets in Rosas. In addition, the children were able to go for much needed swims in the sea and the hotel pool. In the evenings the children spent a certain amount of time writing their Spanish diaries and the rest of the time was spent boogieing in the disco! The food at the hotel was delicious with plenty of choice even for the fussiest of eaters and the hotel itself was very comfortable and child friendly. Time simply flew by and before we knew where we were it was time to face the reality of flying back to England and getting back to school life! The only disappointing aspect of the trip is that we did not have a day longer to enjoy the beautiful weather and idyllic surroundings of Rosas. Hopefully this year’s Spanish trip will have inspired all those who went on it and will serve to motivate not only the present Y8’s but also those studying Spanish in year 7! Roll on the next Spanish trip in 2010! © 2006-12 Clifton College | Prep School NewsPres Athletics Success Family fun at the UK's largest free nature festival | ||||||
