In our complex, multi-layered society, religion is part of the fabric of our day-to-day lives. At Clifton College we feel teaching our students the basics of the world religions is important in helping them nurture their own moral and spiritual development, whilst broadening their minds with an understanding and tolerance of different religious beliefs and practices.

The aim of teaching religious education is to critically examine our students’ own opinions as well as to introduce them to a range of diverse religious and social values. We investigate the nature of faith, examining its importance both for individuals and society as a whole.

Students are encouraged to explore the history, beliefs and practices of Christianity and at least two other major world religions. Currently these are Judaism and Islam which are also rooted in the God of Abraham-the father of the three great monotheistic faiths.

As a valued part of the National Curriculum, we view the studying of religion as a very important part of academic life at Clifton. As religion plays an important role in the College, we feel it is only right to provide students with the opportunity to discuss, question and examine in an open, classroom setting.
