Science in Years 4 & 5

Pupils have eight lessons per fortnight (plus prep in year 5) and will follow our own course which draws material from several sources including Lett’s "Science", The Coordination Group’s "Science" and OUP’s "Science to 14 Foundation". Topic tests will be used to monitor progress throughout the year. Year 5 have an end of year exam too.

Year 4 have a visit to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge; Year 5 also have two days fieldwork at Tyntesfield "Earthkeepers" centre.

The topics in year 4 are as follows:

Autumn term: Ourselves, Solids, Liquids and Gases, Habitats,
Spring term: Animal groups and Birdwatch, Materials, Keeping Warm
Summer term: Sound and Light, Vertebrates

The topics in year 5 are as follows:

Autumn term: Snails, Soil and Clay, Earthkeepers, Pendulums
Spring term: Moving and Growing, Changing circuits, Earth and Space
Summer term: Investigating Dissolving, Flowering Plants
