The Pre Library is situated at the heart of the school and was refurbished during the summer of 2007. It provides a balance between information technologies/media and the printed word.

The ground floor has been totally refurbished with new shelving, soft seating, a new Librarian’s counter, display units and a LCD TV (which shows relevant television programmes, BBC news 24, and DVDs). The Library has a class set of wireless headphones, so that the television can be viewed without disturbing other library users. The Library catalogue is accessible on a computer on the Librarian's counter for students to search the Library's resources across the College’s three libraries.

The Library benefits from a new mezzanine floor accessed by a spiral staircase. On this floor is a glass enclosed area with 13 student computers. This room also contains a SMART board to enable it to be used as a teaching room for information skills lessons, English, EFL and research lessons for smaller classes. There is also a small AV area with 2 computers for audiobook/CD listening/DVD viewing and an area to store DVDs, CDs and other media. The EFL section will also be located in this area. The mezzanine floor also provides a space for an expanding collection of teacher's resources and professional literature for members of staff.

The collection includes an extensive range of children’s fiction and non-fiction to support the curriculum and also contains an expanding choice of DVDs, CDs, magazines and online resources. Pupils may borrow up to 5 items at one time for 3 weeks, with the option to renew the books for longer.

We often have author visits; take part in the national Booked up scheme (free books for all year 7 students), run book fairs and other exciting activities. Please see the Preparatory School Library Events page for further information.

Each English class has an allotted Library lesson at least once every fortnight. The year 4 and 5 students use this time to learn library and information skills. In addition, students may visit the Library during break times, lunch times and after school.

Rebecca Clear, the Pre’s Chartered Librarian has 10 years experience of working in school libraries including; St. Paul’s Girls’ School, London, Westminster School and Harrow International School, Bangkok.
