Clifton College WebsiteCo-Curricular ActivitiesCheck out our new Current Affairs and Debates activity! The Co-Curriculum or Activities Programme is a major strength of the Pre – and that is not just our opinion, but what was concluded by the last Inspector to come a-calling! The reasons for this claim? The diversity and range of Activities offered, which I would venture compares well with anything anywhere else, the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff who run the various activities and the Pupil Activity Profiles which allow us to monitor each individual’s commitment and ensure that he or she receives a full and balanced co-curricular education during their years with us. ![]() The highlight of the week is Saturday morning when the whole school embarks on an Activity Programme, including such delights as Baseball, News and Views, Candle-making, Pop Groups, Glass painting, Mountain Bikes, Kite flying, Touch typing, Basketwork, DJ Club, Computer-enhanced Clay animation, Gymnastics, Triathlon...and Scottish Dancing! It really is a treat to wander round the school at this time and to see children – and staff – embarking on new and fresh challenges and discovering different skills and pastimes. ![]() During the rest of the week, there is another range of activities in which the children participate and these include the artistic (Senior and Junior Art Club), the dramatic (Lamda – building up to the May exams in which we are quickly establishing a very successful record; Drama Workshop, Year 5 and Year 8 plays), the creative (Jewellery, Design Technology and the Craft Clubs), the sporting (both major sports and minor sports such as Lacrosse, Fives, Golf, Fencing, Rackets, Real Tennis, Horse Riding and Badminton) and the alternative (Rock Climbing, Judo, Karate and Yoga). ![]() Add to this the whole plethora of Music Groups (Swing Band, Sax, Oboe and Clarinet groups, Violin ensembles – which have done spectacularly well of late; Wind quartets, Guitar trios and the splendidly named Renaissance Dance Band), the Orchestra and the celebrated School Choir (which has well over fifty choristers) and you begin to see why we are so proud of our Activity Programme. More to the point though, are the children, but you only have to look at their smiling faces when they are enjoying their particular range of activities to see what they think! Not that we are complacent, however. I am always looking for new activities with which to further broaden what we offer - who knows what will come next? Jazz Dancing...? Kayaking...? Hat making...?! © 2006-12 Clifton College | |||||||
