Clifton College WebsiteCharity Bike Ride - Bristol to La Rochelle 2 – 5 July 2011As you may already be aware, plans are afoot for the second Clifton College Charity Bike Ride for Parents and Staff. The route chosen for this year’s ride is Bristol to La Rochelle and the dates are as follows:
- Depart Clifton College: Saturday 2rd July The idea is to cycle to Weymouth on Day 1 and cross the Channel overnight to St. Malo. The route is then to La Rochelle (days 2, 3 and 4). Apart from the first evening - which will be spent on board the ferry - the intention is stay in good quality accommodation so that the bike ride can also be a social event for those participating. The overarching idea is that the ride is open to Clifton College parents, all staff (including support staff) and Council Members. The plan is to take at least three support vehicles from the College to carry bags, equipment, etc; for those who are interested, bikes can be brought back to Bristol in the support vehicles allowing those who want to fly back independently or spend time in La Rochelle/Bordeaux. At present, we have a number of parents and staff members ‘on board’ and prepared to organise the logistics of the trip. At present, there is no fixed cost for this trip as it will be determined by the number of people interested; however, costs will effectively include support vehicles, ferry journey and three nights’ accommodation in France. I would anticipate the cost to be in the region of £400 - 450. Price excludes return journey from La Rochelle. If you would like to register interest, then please email James Breeze – Marketing – on jbreeze@clifton-college.avon.sch.uk and send a cheque to him at the Pre made payable to ‘Clifton College Cycling Club’ for £150 to secure your place. The deadline for sign up is 21st February, 2011. At present, there are 15 participants from last year’s trip to Paris, which leaves 25 places ‘up for grabs!’ There is a meeting to find out more about the trip at 8:30am in the Pre Hall on February 12th which you are all welcome to attend before committing; I look forward to seeing you there! If you know of any interested party who may consider sponsoring the trip in part then please put them in touch with me and I will happily liaise with them. The event should again be a great social event, first and foremost, as well as a good fundraiser for charity. © 2006-12 Clifton College | |||||||
