A Negative Image of Christmas

A Negative Image of Christmas

One of the saddest stories of the holiday period was the death of the conjoined twins born to Laura and Aled Williams on 26th November 2008. The girls, named Faith and Hope, shared a liver, part of their intestines and a major blood vessel, so any operation to separate them was always going to be fraught with risks.

At a time of great joy and celebration because of the birth of Christ, the media reporting of the story was unconsciously poignant:

“Hope was lost at the beginning of December (Advent) and Faith died on Christmas Day.”

Christmas in negative.
