Clifton College WebsiteWaitangi DayAnnually, on 6th February, New Zealand commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. The Treaty is the nation's founding document, signed by over 500 Maori chiefs and representatives of the British Crown, but its place in modern New Zealand remains controversial. One hundred and fifty years after the Treaty of Waitangi, A New Zealand Prayer Book was published. It combines traditional prayers of the Anglican Church with the rich, earth-based spirituality of Maori and Pacific Island cultures. Its language is refreshingly direct and clean, and yet there is profound beauty and truth in its simplicity. For example: A Night Prayer
Lord,
The night is for stillness.
It is night after a long day.
The night is dark.
The night is quiet.
The night heralds the dawn.
In your name we pray. 8 February 2010 © 2006-12 Clifton College | Clifton College NewsVery Superstitious. Lunchtime Recital: Christopher Pidgeon German Lunch | ||||||
