Clifton College WebsiteTravel Writing - When in SpainWe set off in the car, hot, bored and frustrated. Moaning about the heat, and fanning ourselves with our hands, I irritably groaned. We were travelling to a hotel resort for the day to enjoy the sun. The journey to the beach and hotel was taking a long time, though following some foreign signs, we realised we were arriving. Finally, when we arrived there, I jumped out of the car stepping out in the bright sun, the warm glow resting on my shoulders, as we gazed wistfully at the beautiful view. Across the distance, we could see smooth rolling waves and golden sand. There were swimming pools, with sparkling turquoise water, which looked so cool and inviting in the summer sunshine. There were large beds, which many people were led out on them. Everyone was enjoying the heat and the tranquility of the area. All that were heard were the waves, lapping up the golden sand, and then rolling back along the beach. I settled myself down onto a day bed, and lay there sleepily. Soon, I was too hot, so I took several steps down to the beach. Dipping my toes into the crystal water, I gave a sigh of relief. I was hot, and the sensation of the water on my body gave me a chill down my spine. I watched a few families, swimming in the water, then dropped my whole body in. Squealing with delight I splashed about, letting the water wash over my face. I swam for a while, and then hopped back over to my bed. A smooth breeze blew across from the palm trees above my head. I murmured with pleasure, feeling the breeze over my face. Soon, the heat and the comfort of my bed sent me off into a deep sleep. I slept soundly on the bed, quietly for a few hours. We had lunch in a small fish restaurant, overlooking the sea. When we had finished, we sat back in our chairs, soaking up every last inch of the sun. On the way back, we walked across the beach, and I kicked the soft sand between my toes. I used all my senses, taking in everything on this beach. The sights were amazing, the sky so blue, and the sea shimmering when the light hit it. The sand was perfect, completely smooth apart from some footprints, different shapes and sizes. I waded into the water again, still finding the experience breath-taking, as the water cooled my burning body. Next, I climbed into the swimming pool. Lowering myself into the water, I let it rush over me. I swam peacefully for a while, enjoying the water flow smoothly past me. Climbing back out, I padded over to fetch my towel. It was almost time to go. Our day was amazing, the highlights definitely the warm sun, the calm atmosphere, and the waves rolling onto the beach. I was stunned with the beautiful scenery, the surroundings were spectacular and I can’t wait to return to sizzling Spain!
