Celebrating the Chinese Moon Festival

The Chinese Moon Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, when the moon is at its fullest and roundest. In order to celebrate this very special day, the Asian pupils, the Head Master and some members of the staff had dinner at a Chinese restaurant, called Shanghai Nights, near the centre. The Chinese dishes were delicious and it was a surprise that we could have the traditional food of this festival, moon cakes, as our dessert! The atmosphere of that night was lovely as we could all gather together and chat among ourselves. It also provided us with the opportunity to make new friends as there were quite a number of newcomers.

I think the Moon Festival Celebration is truly meaningful and should be carried on. As we are all far from our homes and come from different places, this meal can help with our ‘homesickness’ and makes us realise that we are not alone. We can celebrate our festival with our new friends at a new school and we are all warmly welcomed.
