Sara Temple

Sara Temple has been Head of Wind and Brass at Clifton College since September 2008. As part of this role she teaches the clarinet and coaches various ensembles including the Wind Trio, Clarinet Quartet and other chamber groups, both in the Upper School and the Pre.

Sara read music at King’s College, Cambridge. She continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Martin Musical Trust and the Musician’s Benevolent Fund graduating with a MMus and Post-Diploma in Orchestral Training. Following this she moved to Germany and received lessons from Wolfgang Meyer at the Karlsruhe Hochschule.

As well as teaching, Sara also enjoys a busy freelance career. She completed a year with the Southbank Sinfonia on her return from Germany in 2002 and has also worked with the English National Opera, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Heibronn Kammer Orchester, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Manning Camerata and the Orquestra Ciudad de Granada, performing under the baton of conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Danielle Gatti, James Levine, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neemi Jarvi and Charles Dutoit.

Sara was a finalist of the Royal Overseas League Competition 2002 as the winner of the Worshipful Company of Dyers Award for Woodwind and Brass. She has given recitals and chamber concerts at major venues in the UK including the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, St Martins in the Fields, Bridgewater Hall, City Hall, St James’ Piccadilly, and at the Kings Lynne Festival and the Edinburgh Festival. Sara also undertakes education work away from Clifton College and has given many workshops and concerts with her trio and duo for Live Music Now!
