Results and Universities

Boys and girls fulfil their potential at Clifton: about 20 go to Oxford or Cambridge Universities each year, and we obtain excellent GCSE, AS and A-level results. Our League Table positions reflect these fine achievements, and indeed Clifton came top in the UK's first League Table of 'Value-Added' performance, which measures the progress pupils make in a school between the various National Curriculum Key Stages.

Double figures at top universities

It has been another excellent year for Cliftonians who applied to Oxford and Cambridge last Autumn. Ten pupils have been offered places, which is indicative of the very high standards achieved by the most able pupils in the school. Clifton has regularly been one of the top schools in the West for Oxbridge success.

The overall number of applicants for the two ancient universities, ranked second and third in the world behind only Harvard, continues to soar. There were nearly 4.5 applicants per undergraduate place, with the ratio rising to more than ten in some subject areas.

The successful Clifton contingent represents a good cross section of the College, including boys and girls, boarders and day pupils, those from the Pre and those from other schools; with arts, science and languages all represented.

The ten pupils are as follows:

  • Andrew Bailey: St Catharine’s, Cambridge (Geography)
  • James Robinson: St John’s, Cambridge (Engineering)
  • Ajlaan Bridle: Fitzwilliam, Cambridge (Engineering)
  • Kate West: Christ Church, Oxford (Biological Science)
  • Erin Butterworth: Pembroke, Oxford (Biological Science)
  • Oliver Moody: St Anne’s, Oxford (Classics)
  • David McLeod: Regent’s Park, Oxford (Philosophy and Theology)
  • Rowan Dalglish: Trinity, Oxford (Philosophy and Theology)
  • Rachel Morris: St Edmund Hall, Oxford (Geography)
  • Aaron Lau: University College, Oxford (Chemistry)
