Clifton College WebsiteThe Stone LibraryA dedicated science library in the heart of the Science School but yet linked into the main library catalogue by means of the Oliver system.
As a result of decades of work and the generous gifts of collections of individuals, particularly in recent years, the Stone library now has a collection of science books and periodicals which is probably second to none in schools. In autumn 1998, the big move from the top of the Science School to the ground floor took place. The Stone is now situated where we have always wanted it to be - it is a warm and comfortable room to work in and it is much appreciated by pupils. It is a much used resource. The Stone has been described by more than one past Headmaster of Clifton as "the jewel in the crown" of the Science School. The Stone library is committed to maintaining a full stock of Science books and periodicals [both the very latest publications and the more well established texts] in order to foster, amongst Cliftonians, an interest in all things scientific. It also aims to act as a resource for all kinds of science project work - from the common-or-garden prep to the most sophisticated A Level investigation. The information available through computer software and the internet is seen as a complimentary resource. There is a small bank of computers available for use by pupils in an annexe room next to the main Stone library. The Stone Library is open throughout the school day when the Library Assistant, Mrs Gill Bevington is usually available to help pupils find information. It is also open on three weekday evenings between 7.15 and 9pm, when it is supervised by members of the science teaching staff who operate the sessions at "clinics" where pupils can come and work quietly and also consult the teacher about topics they find difficult. One evening is dedicated to each of the three sciences. © 2006-8 Clifton College | Forthcoming EventsBristol Schools' Mathematics Competition 'A' Netball: U19 Regional Qualifying Tournament Hornby Centre Art Preview Upper School NewsSouth Africa 2008 U14 and U16 Netball Scholarship success! | ||||||||||||
