BTEC 1st Diploma in Public Service

Co-ordinated by Commander S.J. Scorgie

This award is administered by The VQ office at the Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park. For a variety of reasons the award at Clifton is only available to L6 CCF cadets.

This internationally respected qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*- C level (Standard grades at levels 1-3 in Scotland).

The course mixes theory and practical elements with an emphasis on leadership, teamwork, communications, problem solving and fitness. The syllabus has been designed to improve valuable life skills. Cadets learn professional CV preparation, interviewing techniques, communication, first aid, adventure training, health and nutrition.

In addition to existing Cadet activities, Cadets are required to complete the course syllabus All coursework is assessed by Edexcel.

To make it very clear, the reason a student should be doing the BTEC is not for the 4 extra GCSEs A* - C, it is to put on the UCAS form in section 7 as another qualification outside of the normal expectations. We know from personal experience that many students will be applying for the same limited university places with the same GCSE and A level results. The admissions tutors have a tough job in deciding who to see for interviews and who to reject. Students holding qualifications in addition to their academic prowess, demonstrate a wider breadth of knowledge and determination, often leading to interviews (depending on their section 10). The Duke of Edinburgh Gold award is another example.

And best of all, it's FREE and completed as a Sector “E” subject. We currently offer level 2 and 3.
