Clifton College WebsiteThe Shooting ClubMaster in charge: WO2 C. Hughes For those who find they have an aptitude for Rifle Shooting during activity time, the Fourth Form Programme or in a shoot organised by their section, they can extend this interest through involvement in this Club. Competitions take place throughout the year; full-bore 7.62 mm, 5.56 mm and shotgun training takes place at Yoxter, and Rogiet Moor ranges, whilst small-bore shooting is carried out at HMS FLYING FOX and air rifle at the College sports grounds at Beggar Bush. The Club’s activities culminate in the annual Public Schools Shooting Competition at Bisley where we compete for the Ashburton Shield. For those selected there is also the opportunity to participate in the annual Imperial meeting which also takes place at Bisley immediately following the schools meeting. This is an essential prerequisite for those who wish to be considered for a place in the Cadet National Team. Occasionally pupils who do exceptionally well in these competitions are chosen to represent their country in foreign competitions to South Africa, Canada or the Channel Islands. The club aim is to introduce pupils to different kinds of shooting in a safe environment and to teach them the marksmanship skills along with the importance of responsible handling and use of firearms. © 2006-12 Clifton College | Upper School NewsHockey success for Lily Owsley Schools' German Poetry Competition
