Army Summer Camp 2009 - Crowborough

During the last week of term 4 officers and 20 cadets from the Army section departed Bristol for the wilderness plains of deepest East Sussex. The CCF central camp is designed to expose cadets to a wide variety of challenges in a military and outdoor pursuit environment. One of our greatest challenges of the week was the weather, it was very very hot! This did result in some of the activities either being modified or cancelled.

For those of you that missed it, summer was the last week of June.

So what did the cadets do, you will be asking?

Camouflage & Concealment, Patrols, Section Attacks, Ambushes, Shooting, Survival, Obstacle Course, Sailing, Kayaking, Climbing, Mountain Biking, Problem Solving, Communications, etc.

Highlights of the week from a cadet perspective and some of the staff, who will remain anonymous, would be the Paintball and Laser Quest sessions.

Paintballing

Camp culminates in competition day; this is where each school competes against each other. The competition is run as a round robin of stands which cover the majority of the skills taught during the week.

Clifton came 1st on the Survival stand and received a sliver salver for their efforts. We also received a statue of a cadet in full military uniform for winning the "Help for Heroes" raffle.

From my perspective the camp was a great success with everyone having enjoyed themselves. Special mention should go to our senior NCO’s, Sgt Simon Reynolds NT and Sgt Daniel Odutola WIH, their assistance during camp was invaluable.
