Clifton College WebsiteAshton Gate Primary School Language Project – Our experienceWe found teaching children aged 3 to 5 really fascinating as we not only had to teach them songs but we had to learn them ourselves, encouraging our levels of French and Spanish language. The work we have done at the primary school has been really good because they have picked up some of the lyrics for the songs and so have learnt a little bit of French. Also, they seem to enjoy the songs that we sing with the actions and especially “Quelle heure est-il monsieur le loup?”. We think we should add more actions to some songs because the songs with actions are the ones they enjoy the most. It has given us an insight into what it would be like to be a primary school teacher as well, which is interesting. It gave us an understanding that children of that age can often be very hard to communicate with and this has prepared us for having kids ourselves! Scarlett said she liked it better when the students responded to her. A number of us study Psychology and have found it extremely interesting to observe the children and the way they interact with each other, which we can relate to child development. We found that children tended to respond better to kinaesthetic learning and that if we were active and keen to teach then they would be reactive and keen to learn.
