Top Ten Place For Clifton Mathematician

Five students from Clifton College sat the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad and Kangaroo papers (IMOK) on Thursday 18th March having qualified as a result of their success in the earlier Mathematics Challenge.

Leon Wei (5th Form Moberly's House) and Kaffee Yuen (4th Form School House) sat the "Maclaurin paper" and Michael Squire (3rd Form Watson's House) and Preeyan Parmar and July Verkade (both from the Pre) sat the Cayley paper. Leon and Preeyan both achieved Distinctions and book prizes while Kaffee, Michael and July achieved Merit certificates.

Leon's score of 51 out of a possible 60 places him in the top 10 in the country in his age group while Preeyan scored a very creditable 42 out of a maximum of 60. This placed him in the top 50 despite the fact that he is a year younger than most of the other candidates. All in all this was a tremendous performance by all the candidates.
