History

Worcester House is the term-time home for sixty girls aged 13 to 18. It was founded in 1989 and this pair of magnificent Victorian merchant’s houses enjoys one of the best views of the College, looking out over The Close and chapel.

The House has recently been refurbished and provides well equipped studies for all the girls. Third formers (Year 9) could expect to share with two or three other girls, whilst most Upper Sixth Formers have their own room with internet access. The excellent facilities in the House include a computer room, library, common rooms, laundry and girls’ kitchens. John Cleese, who opened the House Hall (the main common room) remarked, “This house is much nicer than any of you deserve”.

House Strengths

Housemistress Annie Musgrove explains the special qualities of Worcester House: “I am constantly struck by the friendliness of the girls to each other and the house staff. Older girls make a point of looking after younger girls in the house and welcoming newcomers. They are a lively group and are keen to take part in everything that is on offer, excelling equally in music and drama and on the sports pitches. The girls respect each other’s strengths and differences and provide a mutually supportive environment to live and study.”

House Activities

House activities, outings, sports, music, art and drama provide lots of opportunities for the girls to get to know each other and work as a team. We have recently been surfing in Wales. The House staff endeavour to develop the girls’ leadership skills and sense of responsibility so that they may all leave Clifton College as confident young women ready to embark on the next stage of their education.

House Motto
