Clifton College WebsiteDragon Boat Race 2010As all the Worcester House crew finally arrived at the Bristol Docks, it was mutually agreed that we could have not asked for a better day for this Dragon Boat Racing event. The sun was out, the sky was blue and the water was clear. There was much excitement amongst the girls. As the first race loomed there were many nervous girls, myself included, but as we all safely got into the large Dragon boat many nerves were calmed as we all realised there was no possible way that we could fall out and drown - or so we thought. With Mrs Hallworth as our drummer and a crew of 16 including Mr Cuesta and Mr Beever we managed to make it through our first race. We had the morale that ... "it is not all about the winning, just about the taking part". It was clear that up against full grown adult crews there was barely a competition. We completed two more races, coming second in one of the races which was a great surprise to many, and after our last race we were all tired and ready to relax in the sun. We all enjoyed the BBQ and after all our races had finished and girls began to disperse there was still a strong sense of House Spirit. Not only being there as a House that lifted all our spirits but also the feeling of achievement that we had raised over £1,000 through fundraising for the charity Childline. As a House, we are thankful for all parents efforts to help us with our fundraising and we have almost reached our target. We would have not done it without all the girls in the House and all their parents which have sponsored us and help us with our fundraising efforts.
