Sports
Clifton operates a policy of ‘Sport and Fitness for All’.
The opportunities offered for sport at Clifton College are enormous both in their diversity and their levels of participation. The school policy ensures pupils are given the chance to progress to their chosen level. All pupils play major team games up to the age of 15 at least once a week. Then they are able to opt and specialise in other activities along side a major game, the range of sport offered is outstanding both in its breadth and excellence of instruction.
Facilities include a Sports Centre, comprising a large hall with indoor cricket nets, indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, weights room and cardio-vascular room. Close by are the Rackets court and Games Shop. Elsewhere on the campus are eight Fives courts, Squash courts and six Tennis/Netball courts.
Games activity is split between the 20 acres of local playing fields (including the famous 'Close' and 80 acres at the Clifton College Sports Ground aka Beggar Bush
(across the Suspension Bridge) which includes two Astroturf Hockey pitches, 24
Tennis courts, a Real Tennis
court and a new
pavilion. Rowing takes place on the River Avon.
Being part of a dynamic city means that the College can develop links with
sports clubs and Bristol University to make use of locally available specialized
coaching.
