Clifton College WebsiteCricket![]() Member of staff in charge of cricket: Mr John Bobby Cricket Professional: Paul Romaines Cricket is the major game for boys’ in the Summer Term and has a long history at the College. The highest individual score in any cricket match remains the 628 not out made by A.E.J.Collins in a House match at Clifton in 1899. The College will play block fixtures each weekend with traditionally the most prestigious fixtures being Cheltenham College and Marlborough. ![]() The centrepiece of the College is ‘The Close’, the 1st XI ground (shown left). There are few finer school grounds in the country with the imposing backdrop of the college buildings providing a wonderful cricketing stage. Junior cricket matches are played at the Beggar’s Bush Grounds where there are three further squares. Paul Romaines played 1st Class cricket for Durham and Gloucestershire before moving to the College as Cricket Professional in 1998. ![]() In 2007 the College’s U15 side won the West Regional 20/20 beating Blundell’s and King’s Taunton in the West Finals at Exeter University (shown left). The cup was presented by John Lewis (GCCC Captain). Winning the West meant that they competed in the National Semi-Finals at Headingly. To reach the top four schools from an entry of over a thousand was a tremendous achievement. ![]() The 1st XI have embarked on several overseas tours, the last of which was to the Islands of St. Lucia (shown left) and St. Vincent in the Caribbean.
