Clifton College WebsiteRugby FootballRugby Football is the main College game. It is compulsory for boys in year 9, 10 and 11 and there is a very strong expectation that these boys will continue to represent their school in the sixth form if required. The College puts sixteen teams into the field on Saturday afternoons, four per year group and four senior sides. The ethos is very simple; to play hard but to play fair, to respect both your team mates and your opposition and above all enjoy the sport. Clifton College would like its teams to win or lose with good grace. Boys should all play and train wearing a mouthguard and dressed in school sports clothing. ![]() The teams play and train either on 'The Close' or at Beggars Bush. Junior sides train on Mondays at school and Thursdays at Beggars Bush. Senior Colts and the ‘Bigside’ squads train on The Close on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Friday afternoon is used for fine tuning for Saturday matches. There are matches every Saturday afternoon. The U15 team play in the Daily Mail Cup and the U14 A squad always tours in September. Recent success has seen Clifton’s reputation in rugby grow considerably over the past few years. Boys regularly represent Bristol Schools and the south west region and 10 boys are in the Bristol RFU School of rugby at U14, U15, U16 age groups. In the Lent Term teams are sent to Rugby Sevens Tournaments including The National Sevens at Rosslyn Park and the 1st XV end their season at Sedbergh Super Tens Tournament. ![]() ![]() © 2006-12 Clifton College | |||||||
