LTA Schools Competition – the U15 boys have won the Bristol division in the each of the last few years and have gone on to participate in the Regional final in the last two years, finishing in the top 16 of the country on both occasions. ![]() Major Fixtures/Competitions Entered:Seniors – Glanvill Cup, Juniors – LTA Schools Competition (ex. Nestlé league). From 2009, we shall enter the Youll Cup for Seniors and the Thomas Bowl for U15 at Eton. We also have individuals entering the Avon County Singles and Doubles championships. Development:Our participants are encouraged to compete the best they can for themselves and their playing partner, whilst upholding respect for their opponents and the laws of the sport. A professional LTA coach is employed for two sessions a week to develop the skills and tactics of singles and doubles tennis, whilst maintaining the elements of fun and etiquette that are attached to this sport. These skills are then applied and honed in the pressure of a doubles match situation, where one pair plays one set against each of the opponent’s three pairs in a round-robin format. ![]() Member of staff in charge of girls tennis: Mrs Louise Catchpole Aims of the SportTo encourage girls of all age and ability to play tennis. It is an exciting and energetic game, where they can improve the speed, agility and quickness. Tennis is a game which is easily played in adult life and socially beneficial. Tennis is a major girl’s games sport with over seventy girls playing three times a week. Venues:4 indoor courts and 24 outdoor Courts at Beggar Bush. Number of Teams Run:Four senior teams and six junior teams. Achievements/Honours:We have won the Doubles County Tournament at U19 and played in the singles finals. The girls have reached the national finals in the Aberdare Competition in 2007 and won the U15 nestle competition for the last three years (2006,2007 and 2008). We have also won the ‘Loveband’ trophy in the Eton competition. Major Fixtures/Competitions Entered:Clifton enters all county tournaments for all age groups, U14, U16 and U19. The fixture list is extensive playing, Millfield, Marlborough, Cheltenham Ladies, Cheltenham College, Bristol Grammar school, Blundell’s, Queens Taunton, Taunton, King’s Taunton, Malvern and Bromsgrove Schools. We enter the Nestle U15 County League, Aberdare U19 Trophy and the ‘Road to Wimbledon'. ![]() Important Coaches:Each team has its own tennis coach and umpire. Sarah Thomas is the main professional coach at Clifton and runs all sessions with team coaches as assistants.
