Terriers 2006-7

Terriers 2006-7

Terriers...a break from lessons for the third form and a chance to mix the vital life skills with practical learning.

The many activities include a chance to board the famous SS Great Britain, or even try your hand at shooting. Terrier's takes place on a Tuesday afternoon, and all 3rd Form students have to participate. The aim of Terriers is to take children to places that they may not visit in their free time and also is a chance to teach skills that would fall under the category of life skills. Some use Terriers as a time to mix with another friendship group, maybe one that you spend less time with during the working week. Be it shooting targets, visiting the art museum or even just a walk down to the Cathedral, Terriers is a chance to have a bit of fun in a busy week. Mr Romaines even took a group to watch the 1st XI playing cricket on The Close.

At the beginning of the summer term the whole year dresses up, the girls in evening dress and the boys in black tie, for a formal dinner and dance, 'The Terriers Ball'. After the meal William Hanson took to his feet for his speech highlighting the reasons behind his etiquette lessons. 'That's ma'am as in ham, not, ma'am as in farm,' just one of the many humorous extracts. With the formal part of the meal over it was time for the head banging disco, quite the opposite of Will's speech. Tom Mendham, laid on a super array of tracks taking us right through to the end of the evening. Just to cap the super evening Mr Romaines had arranged a super professional photographer who took some stunning shots of the group.

Terriers, some put it down before they even know what it is, others love it from the start, but all we know is that by the end of the year everyone loves it. Next year the opportunity has gone, as we move to the 4th Form and take on the challenge of the CCF or Clifton in the Community, but I hope that many more years get the same opportunity.
