Bristol City claim point against a feisty Preston North End

Bristol City claim point against a feisty Preston North End

Bristol City extended their unbeaten run to four games thanks to an own goal from Preston defender Billy Jones.

Jones headed into his own net under pressure and City's Albert Adomah almost grabbed a winner when he hit the woodwork with a late strike. Iain Hume had given Preston an early lead after scoring in the first few minutes from Sean St Ledger's cross.

Hume also hit the woodwork after the break and David James tipped a Jon Parkin shot against the crossbar before denying the striker again late on. But it was City who finished the match on top as they looked to leapfrog their opponents in the Championship table.

Brett Pitman went close, as did Marvin Elliott, but there was to be no winner for Keith Millen's improving side.

City may feel that they were in fact hard done by as referee Whitestone made himself very unpopular with some rather questionable decisions. In the end though City can't really complain as a point was all they deserved after continuing their bad habit of starting slowly and only waking up once they've been punished.

The result meant the Robins remained in the relegation zone, third from bottom and one place below North End.
